چکیده
Acute Intake of Radionuclides Immediately After the Incident as theMain Contributor of the Internal Radiation Exposure After FukushimaDaiichi Nuclear Disaster The Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster is a series of equipment failures, nuclear meltdowns, and release of radioactive materials, raising serious health concerns in nearby residents. We recently reported that levels of internal radiation exposure (IRE) by radioactive cesium in Minamisoma, Fukushima were low1; however, it is not as certain whether the detected levels of exposure were due to low ongoing exposure or decay from high-exposure values. To address this issue, transition of IRE among Minamisoma residents was monitored for children younger than 16 years, with biological half-lives of cesium in children up to age 15 years described as less than 93 days.2

Detecting residual fluorine 18 from a medical PET-CT procedure during population whole body counter screening in Fukushima.
After the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear incident in 2011, radiation contamination of the affected area raised public health concerns about internal radiation exposure. Internal radiation exposure screening using a whole body counter (WBC) (Fastscan Model 2251, Canberra Inc, Meriden, CT) has been performed for the affected residents in Soma City, 40 km north of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power pl...
متن کاملAssessment of the Risk of Medium-Term Internal Contamination in Minamisoma City, Fukushima, Japan, after the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Accident
BACKGROUND The Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear disaster, the first level-7 major nuclear disaster since Chernobyl, raised concerns about the future health consequences of exposure to and intake of radionuclides. Factors determining the risk and level of internal radiation contamination after a nuclear accident, which are a key to understanding and improving current nuclear disaster management, are n...
متن کاملEvaluation of Internal Exposure of the Workers and the Residents Caused by the Fukushima Nuclear Accident
The accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant has resulted in many cases of internal exposure to radionuclides. JAEA staff has examined the workers and the residents by measurement with a various type of whole body counters. The committed effective dose was estimated using the intake scenarios according to the object of monitoring and expected level of exposure. In the examination o...
متن کاملAssessment of the Annual Additional Effective Doses amongst Minamisoma Children during the Second Year after the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant Disaster
An assessment of the external and internal radiation exposure levels, which includes calculation of effective doses from chronic radiation exposure and assessment of long-term radiation-related health risks, has become mandatory for residents living near the nuclear power plant in Fukushima, Japan. Data for all primary and secondary children in Minamisoma who participated in both external and i...
متن کاملMinimal Internal Radiation Exposure in Residents Living South of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant Disaster
Following the Fukushima nuclear power plant disaster, assessment of internal radiation exposure was indispensable to predict radiation-related health threats to residents of neighboring areas. Although many evaluations of internal radiation in residents living north and west of the crippled Fukushima nuclear power plant are available, there is little information on residents living in areas sou...
